  • With those much sought after (and prone to failure with hard usage) smooth rear hubs, you tractor is a 1939 or early 1940 model.

  • 1940 serial numbers range from 10276 to 46017. Your tractor has a starter/transmission interlock button (Used after #12500), but still retains the smooth rear hubs (dropped after # 41500), which would seem to point to a 1940 tractor. HOWEVER, dating these little Fords can be a challenge because they were made in large numbers, were (and still are) hugely popular, and almost all the parts interchange throughout the years and different models-9,2, and 8n. Your tractor might be a "bitsa" model, as in a bit a this and a bit of that. For example, if your engine has been replaced in the past with one from another tractor then your tractor gets a new serial number as that is the only place where it was stamped. Its entirely possible that the entire smooth axled rear end from an earlier tractor was swapped for a broken riveted hub version, or a slightly newer front half was grafted to a older rear half to make a useable tractor from two different Fords that had major mechanical failures at opposite ends.
